History

Belt-scrolling brawls step into polygonal streets in Fighting Force. Core Design tried to carry the arcade beat-em-up into 3D, with weapons lifted off the pavement and rooms that break when a body hits a crate.

The 1997 release reached the new disc consoles and the Nintendo 64. A crate breaks when the body hits it. Four fighters work the same city blocks, and a boss at the end of a district replaces the next wave of identical thugs.

It is a punch-and-throw tour, not a one-on-one duel with special-move motions. The camera sits behind the brawler so a crowd can surround the avatar the way a flat belt-scroller once did.
