History
Alice stays aloft with the balloons in her hands in Balloon Kid (1990), pumping a new one whenever one pops. Nintendo's follow-up to Balloon Fight sends her scrolling across the sky after her brother Jim.
Birds, lightning, and a long horizontal trip replace Balloon Fight's single-screen duel. The balloons are both the jump and the life pool: lose them and Alice drops.
Balloon Trip's endless scroll is the ancestor of the travel. Alice, Jim, and the spare balloons she carries are what make this chapter a story instead of another versus match.
