Konami published Zen: Intergalactic Ninja on Game Boy in 1993, a side-scroller drawn from the small-press comic about an alien warrior. A bo staff and a pollution-fighting plot fit that comic's hero.
Zen reaches through short stages a pocket screen can hold, bonking foes with the staff. The indie comic's environmental ninja is the license Konami put on the cartridge.
Those comic pages, not a toy line or a television season, are the source. The Game Boy version is a compact run with that alien in the lead.
