Swedish year-walking folklore supplies the dread, and Year Walk is Simogo's horror about attempting that ritual. The huldra and the brook horse punish a walker who breaks the ritual's silence.
The phone original hid extra clues in a companion app, so a vision in the woods sometimes required a fact stored outside the story. Huldra, brook horses, and the church grim appear as the walker breaks the rules of the tradition.
A successor-console port in 2013 folded more of that guidance into the game itself. The ritual's direction and silence remain the point, not a combat system against the creatures.
