Ink on paper is the entire look, and Ballpoint Universe - Infinite is the shooter drawn as if a pen had doodled the enemies. Crosshatched enemies still fire patterns that have to be dodged like any other shooter wave.
Scribbled ships and margin notes replace metallic sprites. The side-scrolling firefight still asks for dodges and weapon pickups, only the shading is ballpoint crosshatch.
The 2013 release received a successor-console version. A boss that looks like a notebook monster is still a pattern of shots to memorize.
