SNK's Real Bout Fatal Fury Special is a Neo Geo revision in the Fatal Fury line, tuned as an arcade fighter. Plane-switching scraps, hopping between foreground and background, define this 1997 edition.
Terry Bogard and Geese Howard return to South Town with that two-lane movement. A special that changes planes can slip an attack that would have landed on the near lane.
Earlier Fatal Fury cabinets had already taught the lane swap. Real Bout Special is a tuned Neo Geo version of the same South Town idea.
