George Fan's lawn-defense comedy made PopCap a household name, and Plants vs. Zombies lines pea-shooters up against a shuffling horde. A walnut in front of a peashooter is the basic fort, and a pool lane later adds a lily pad under both.
Sun is the currency, dropped by flowers and collected before a cherry bomb or a walnut can be planted. Each row is a lane, and a breach in the last tile costs a life as the undead reach the door.
A handheld version later recreated those lanes in 2009's wake. Crazy Dave's advice and the escalating roof and pool stages remain the joke as much as the grid.
