History

Solid Snake infiltrates Galuade in Metal Gear: Ghost Babel, and the mission is not a replay of Shadow Moses. Konami's 2000 stealth game was retitled Metal Gear Solid outside Japan, yet the story stands apart from the PlayStation episode.

A top-down radar, a cardboard box, and a codec call are the tools, squeezed onto a small screen that still wants the player to avoid a guard's cone. The outer-heaven fortress, the new Metal Gear, and a different cast of rivals keep the plot from being a portable summary of the disc.

Western boxes borrowed the Solid name because that was the brand shoppers knew. Inside, the infiltration is its own what-if, with Snake sneaking through a fortress the PlayStation game never mapped.
