History

Candy bribes sleeping animals so Nemo can ride them in Little Nemo: The Dream Master, Capcom's adaptation of the Slumberland film and comic. A fed frog, a mole, or another dream creature lends its movement until the stage's logic changes.

Capcom brought that ride-the-animal idea to the NES in 1990, crossing Slumberland by borrowed bodies. A polite dream garden and a harsher nightmare room need different creatures, because Nemo's own jump is rarely enough.

The candy is both key and timer, because the animal wakes or wanders if the feeding is mishandled. Nemo's own small jump is rarely enough, which is why the sleeping creatures matter.
