History

Capcom replaced the jump with a wire in Bionic Commando. The commando hooks a ledge, swings across a shaft, and never gets an ordinary hop.

The NES campaign is its own chain of missions, not a straight copy of the shorter arcade cabinet. In 1988 that longer objective, passed along by radio chatter between bases, sat among Capcom's staples for the console.

Enemy camps and elevators punish a missed swing more than they punish a slow trigger finger. Learning the length of the bionic arm is the skill the stages keep testing.
