Dam corridors, swimming sections, and a top-down overworld make Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (1989) a demanding NES adventure. The turtles search for April and fight the Foot on a map, then drop into side-view missions that include the notorious dam.
Konami's cart is not the arcade beat 'em up. That coin-op was ported by a later cartridge, and this one has the overworld, the water, and the dam instead.
The swimming and the dam are the stretches players still describe as the wall. The top-down map and the mission stages are Konami's NES adventure, separate from the cabinet brawl.
