History

Hiryu climbs a futuristic mountain with a tonfa in Strider (1989), Capcom's arcade action about a specialized agent. The weapon swings in wide arcs, and the climb uses the tonfa and Hiryu's grip on the cliff machinery.

The NES cartridge ports that coin-op, including the mountain and the organization's bases. It is the arcade Strider brought home, not a new plot written only for the console.

The Genesis Strider is a different and much longer game, with its own route. Players comparing the two are looking at two Strider designs, and the NES cart is the one tied to the arcade mountain.
