History

Bit Busters membership waits behind keys and computer chips in Chip's Challenge, Chuck Sommerville's top-down puzzle. Teeth, fire, and water block the grid, and a stolen chip is the ticket through a socket.

Sommerville's game debuted on the Atari Lynx in 1989, and the Bit Busters trials are the fiction. Monsters and keys are the rules of each single-screen room.

Microsoft later bundled it in a Windows Entertainment Pack. The Lynx original and that PC bundle are the lives of Sommerville's chips, beyond any one console port.
