Noise Factory built a handheld Metal Slug whose loadout lives in a binder of cards, and SNK published it as Metal Slug Advance in 2004. Those cards rewrite which weapons you bring and how a mission is framed. The campaign was made for the Game Boy Advance, not reduced from a single arcade board.
Soldiers still run, jump, shoot, and dive clear of blasts. One card might hand over a different gun, another a vehicle, another a twist on the objective waiting ahead. Filling the binder is progress, because the stage alone does not freeze the kit.
Arcade Metal Slug releases keep their own fixed routes and their own weapon drops along the way. This cartridge asks for a set of cards first, then sends them into missions written for the small screen. Noise Factory holds onto the chunky soldiers and the hectic fire while the binder does the customizing.
SNK's official Advance entry depends on that collection. Leave the cards idle and the marches stay plain. Spend them and the same stretch of war can mean another gun and another goal.
Same series is the tight name match. Same franchise is the wider family. Same platform is other games on the systems named above.
None in this catalog yet.
No wider family is grouped for this title beyond the series list.
