History

Vert ramps carry the name of a real rider in Mat Hoffman's Pro BMX, Activision's 2001 trick game from the same boom as Tony Hawk. Hoffman, nicknamed the Condor, is the marquee pro, and the sessions are about air, grinds, and a score rather than a finish line.

A handheld edition flattens the parks into a side view where the stick still times a tailwhip. The home versions had room for larger bowls; the small cart keeps the rider, the sponsors' feel, and the two-minute run.

Tony Hawk's skate games had already taught players a trick grammar. This BMX set borrows that grammar for pegs and dirt, with Hoffman's name on the box as the proof it is not another skateboard.
