A firefighter outruns the blaze he is standing in, and Jones On Fire is the short runner about staying ahead of that heat. Stopping for a trapped civilian can let the blaze catch the lane Jones had already cleared.
Jumps across rooftops have to keep moving because the fire fills the space just left. A stumble is a restart of the short lane rather than a health bar to manage.
The 2015 shop release on the successor console keeps the run brief. Collecting a trapped civilian is the detour that can cost the lead on the flames.
