Debt replaces the sunset clock in Pikmin 2. Purple Pikmin lift what the red ones cannot budge. Louie and Olimar hunt treasure for Hocotate Freight's angry president, and caves drop the squad into dungeons that do not end when the surface gets dark.
Nintendo's GameCube sequel, released in 2004, adds purple and white Pikmin and removes the strict day limit of the first rescue. Poison and buried objects ask for the new colors, while the surface still has a clock that only matters between cave trips.
A later Switch collection pairs this treasure hunt with the first game. The caves, the company debt, and Louie's appetite are the sequel's own problems.
