History

Chess pieces that punch and a falling-block board sit beside the fatalities in Mortal Kombat: Deception. Midway followed Deadly Alliance with this 2004 fighter, adding Chess Kombat and Puzzle Kombat to the usual one-on-one bouts.

A large roster returns characters the previous game had removed, and a Konquest walk through the realms frames the story between matches. The puzzle mode drops fighters as blocks, while Chess Kombat turns a board into a squad of the same kombatants.

Deadly Alliance had already changed the 3D camera and killed a pair of heroes. Deception's extra modes, the chess board and the puzzle well, are what the subtitle is selling besides another fatality.
