History

Gruntilda's rhyme opens Rare's Banjo-Kazooie, in which a bear and a bird collect musical notes and jiggies. Spiral Mountain leads into themed worlds, and each jiggy opens another door in the witch's lair.

Notes raise the hit points, while jiggies are the keys. Mumbo's hut can transform the pair, and the jokes sit on signposts, in the voices, and in Gruntilda's couplets.

The 1998 collect-a-thon sits beside Mario 64 on that shelf of Nintendo 64 exploration. Banjo's backpack and Kazooie's eggs are the moves that make each world traversable.
