History
Polarity swaps are the entire weapon in Ikaruga, Hiroshi Iuchi's 2001 shooter for Treasure. The ship flips between black and white, absorbing shots of the matching color and dying to the other, and the cube disc is a home port of that arcade design.
A chain builds when destroyed enemies share a polarity, so survival and score ask for opposite habits. Bullet curtains are dense enough that the color flip is the dodge.
The cube port brings the arcade pattern home without turning it into a story campaign. Players still learn the stages as color routes, not as cover shooters.
