Madeline climbs, and a darker double climbs after her, in Celeste. Maddy Thorson and Noel Berry's 2018 platformer sends her up the mountain and was praised for its assist options as much as for the precision of the jumps.
Strawberries, B-sides, and a feather that needs calm steering are the extras around the main ascent. Badeline, the other self, is both antagonist and companion, which keeps the story inside the climb instead of in a cutscene town.
Assist mode can slow the game or grant extra air. The mountain does not get shorter; the options simply admit that the summit should be reachable by more than one kind of player.
