Spikes, darts, and falling blocks fill a cruel temple, and 1001 Spikes is the arcade challenge Nicalis published on two Nintendo machines. An idol off the main drop is optional only until the player learns the fatal tiles beside it.
Lives drain in seconds until a pattern is memorized. The explorer's descent after a lost expedition is the frame, but the play is the next trap two tiles ahead.
Memorized spike rooms reached both the successor console and the glasses-free handheld in 2014 with the idol still off the fatal path. A hidden idol off the fatal path is the reward for a route that looked optional.
Same series is the tight name match. Same franchise is the wider family. Same platform is other games on the systems named above.
